Preparing VMs for migration

There is no playbook that prepares guests. Complete these checks when the workload needs guest-side work before you define the wave.

Typical checks (follow MTV and guest OS guidance):

  • VMware Tools or RHV guest agent where the provider requires them.

  • For cold plans, a maintenance window so VMs can power off.

  • For warm plans, you still need a later Cutover (Migrating VMs).

  • Names and folders you will put in mtv_plans_migration_request actually exist on the source.

  • Applications that cannot move with the VM (external load balancers, licenses tied to hardware) are handled outside this factory.
